The BR 215 was a diesel locomotive type of the DB and later of Deutsche Bahn AG for the medium-heavy passenger and freight train service. The series was procured at short notice as a variant of the vehicle family V 160 and equipped with heating steam generators. The main reason for the construction of the BR 215 was that the BR 218 had not yet reached series production.
The star performance of the BR 215 was undoubtedly the DC 942/945 "Werraland".
